Joel Anthony, a 10-year veteran of the NBA who appeared in 556 regular season and playoff games, and a long-time member of the Canadian senior national team, has been re-signed as Player Development Consultant to the Hamilton Honey Badgers for the 2021 season.

“Joel Anthony brings a wealth of playing experience at the NBA and FIBA level,” said team General Manager Jermaine Anderson in making the announcement Thursday. “Joel was a member of two NBA winning championship teams in Miami, a member of two championship teams with San Lorenzo in Argentina’s top league, and he helped Canada qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

“Joel will assist with the holistic development of our players, while assisting our coaches and staff throughout the season,” Anderson added. “I have had the privilege and honour of playing with Joel for over a decade, and I’m looking forward to having him as a member of the Honey Badgers family once again this season.”

Anthony played his first seven NBA seasons with the Miami Heat, winning NBA titles in 2012 and 2013. He was traded to the Boston Celtics midway through the 2013-14 campaign, and from the Celtics to Detroit just prior to the 2014-15 season. After being waived by the Pistons in the summer of 2016, Anthony signed with San Antonio for the 2016-17 season. His NBA career came to an end when he was among the final players released by the Milwaukee Bucks during their 2017 training camp.

On February 27, 2018, Anthony signed with San Lorenzo of Argentina’s Liga Nacional de B á squet (LNB), which also competes in The Americas League. During his two-year stint in Argentina he helped the club win back-to-back championships in both leagues.

A 2007 graduate of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Anthony was named Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year his senior season after finishing second in the nation in blocks-per-40-minutes (6.77) and first in the conference in blocked shots, blocks per game, and defensive win shares.

Season tickets for the 2021 Honey Badgers season are available now with a $50 deposit by telephone at (905) 522-BALL or at www.honeybadgers.ca/tickets.
