The Edmonton Stingers visit the Montréal Alliance as both teams try to snap a three-game losing streak on June 20 at 7:30 pm ET. The defending champion Stingers (4-4) are sixth in the CEBL standings while the Alliance (3-5) are eighth.

This season has been one of runs for Edmonton. After losing their season opener, they reeled off four straight wins. Since then, they have lost three consecutive games.

Their most recent loss came to the Saskatchewan Rattlers 97-85. The Stingers were outscored 54-43 in the second half and they couldn’t keep up with the Rattlers’ three-point shooting (53 to 21 per cent).

Forwards Marlon Johnson Jr. (16 points, 13 rebounds), Brody Clarke (19 points, five rebounds) and captain Jordan Baker (17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists) led the team against Saskatchewan. Meanwhile, guard Adika Peter-McNeilly scored eight points off the bench.

Edmonton’s forwards will be a focal point against Montréal. They are fourth in the league averaging 37.6 rebounds. Baker leads all players with 10.6 rebounds on average while also showing his versatility as a playmaker, averaging 5.0 assists.

The Alliance saw their undefeated home run end after losing to the Niagara River Lions on June 15. Montréal has lost four of their last five games.

Against Niagara, they fell behind early on but clawed back to cut the lead to 69-64 in Elam time before losing. Four of their five starters scored in double figures but they were outscored 21-11 in bench scoring. Guard Alain Louis and forwards Dominic Green and James Jean-Marie figure to have a notable role in their game against Edmonton.

Their teammates Ashley Hamilton and Nathan Cayo will be matched up against Clarke, Johnson Jr. and Baker. Cayo had 12 points and six rebounds while Hamilton had five points and four assists against Niagara.

The Alliance visited Edmonton on June 8, losing 85-72. After ending the first quarter up 26-13, Montréal were outscored in the remaining three quarters – including 26-9 in the second. The Stingers had more rebounds, blocks and assists in that game. Edmonton outscored Montréal 42-20 in points in the paint and 11-2 in second chance points.

An important factor for Montréal will be whether they can carry their strong play across the whole game against Edmonton. One advantage the Alliance can lean on is their three-point shooting. They are third at 36.3 per cent while the Stingers are seventh at 32.0 per cent.

The Alliance are 3-1 at home as they look to get their first-ever win over Edmonton (2-1 on the road) and catch them in the standings. If Montréal wins, both teams will be tied at 4-5.

This game is the second in a four-game road stretch for the Stingers while the Alliance have their own three-game road stretch afterwards.
