Scarborough Shooting Stars Open Training Camp Thursday
The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) look to expand on the success of their inaugural season when they open training camp this Thursday at Royal Crown Academic School.
The Shooting Stars training camp roster includes 12 players with previous CEBL experience, eight of whom played for Scarborough last season. 2019 NBA draft pick and 2022 All-CEBL First Team star Jalen Harris will once again suit up for Scarborough. Rejoining him in the back court is team Canada sharpshooter Kassius Robertson and four-time U SPORTS national champion Marcus Anderson. Familiar front court faces include CEBL vet Kalif Young, 2023 U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year David Muenkat, Kameron Chatman, Danilo Djuricic and Aaron Rhooms.
Scarborough made a big splash in free agency with the signings of Cat Barber and Thomas Kennedy. Barber is a two-time All-CEBL Second Team star. He is one of a select few CEBL players with NBA experience after dressing for the Atlanta Hawks in December 2021. Kennedy is the CEBL’s defending U SPORTS Player of the Year. This will be his first season as a true pro after graduating from the University of Windsor where he became the Lancers all-time leading scorer. He was also named OUA and U SPORTS Male Basketball Player of the Year.
Toronto guards Daniel Mullings and Myck Kabongo signed with the Shooting Stars this past week. Both guards have CEBL experience and will bring a unique skill set to Scarborough.
Rounding out the training camp roster are four players who will look to make their professional debuts this summer. University of Richmond forward Matt Grace, and Lithuanian guard out of the University of Maine Gediminas Juozapaitis, signed their first professional contracts with the Shooting Stars last week. Last month, the Shooting Stars selected Toronto Metropolitan University guard David Walker with the 12th pick in the CEBL U SPORTS Draft. Frederickton, New Brunswick guard Malcolm Christie will also be joining the team at training camp.
After one of the most exciting finishes in CEBL championship history, the Shooting Stars look for redemption when they open their 2023 season on May 26 at the CAA Centre versus the Brampton Honey Badgers. A league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sport executives, and referees, the CEBL boasts the highest percentages of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 71 percent of its 2022 rosters being Canadian. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as
