American Shooting Guard Sherwood Brown Signs With the Alliance

Montréal, QC – The Montréal Alliance announced Monday that American guard Sherwood Brown signed a contract with the expansion team for the 2022 season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). 


The six-foot-four Florida native started the 2021-2022 season in Finland with Lahti before finishing the year in Romania with BC Timisoara. Overall, this year, Brown averaged 10.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 39.1 percent from the three-point line.

Prior to joining the Finnish team in Lahti, Brown played three seasons in Romania with BC Timisoara. In total, during those three seasons, Brown averaged 13.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 69 games. 


Internationally, the 30-year-old guard also played with Al Ittihad Jeddah in Saudi Arabia (2017-2018), Al Rayyan Doha in Qatar (2017-2018), White Wings Hanau in Germany (2016-2017), Byblos Sporting Club in Lebanon (2015-2016) and Fuerza Guinda de Nogales in Mexico (2013-2014). 


From 2013 to 2015, Brown played in the NBA G League with the Maine Red Claws. During the 2013-2014 season, the American averaged 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 30 games. The following season, Brown averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds while helping his team reach the playoffs.


Brown played four collegiate seasons with Florida Gulf Coast University, including two in the NCAA’s division I. In his final season in 2012-2013, Brown averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists. That same season, the shooting guard was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, to the First-team All-Atlantic Sun and was an AP All-American honorable mention. In addition, Brown became the third player in Florida Gulf Coast University history to reach 1,000 points and the first to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. 


While at Florida Gulf Coast University, Brown led his team to its first division championship, allowing his university to qualify for the March Madness tournament for the first time in its history. In the March Madness, Brown scored 24 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in a first-round win over number two seed Georgetown. The American went on to help his team win the second game of the tournament against San Diego State, which marked the first time a 15th-ranked team advanced to the third round of the tournament. 


Growing up in Orlando, Florida, Brown graduated from Olympia High School before joining Florida Gulf Coast University. 


Brown joins point guards Kemy Ossé, Hernst Laroche, Lawi Msambya, Samuel Cayo, Samuel Chaput and Alain Louis, shooting guard Isiah Osborne, forwards Dominic Green, James Jean-Marie, Ashley Hamilton, Abdul Mohamed, Élie Karojo and Nathan Cayo as well as centers Marc-André Fortin, Gaios Skordilis and Lewis Diankulu and will join the team for the beginning of training camp for the 2022 CEBL season starting May 16.
