Niagara ON: The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that Jordan Baker of the Edmonton Stingers is the winner of the CEBL Canadian Of The Year award in a vote cast by CEBL coaches, general managers, and media covering the CEBL Summer Series.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Edmonton, Alberta, played all eight games in the CEBL Summer Series, averaging 12.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 3.8 assists, and 28.3 minutes while helping guide the Stingers to the 2020 championship. The Canadian led the league in rebounds per game for the second year in a row. He also ranked first in the league in 2-point field goal percentage (61.1%), fifth in field goal percentage (.567) and fifth in assists (3.8).

Earning the honour over fellow award finalist Thomas Scrubb of the Ottawa BlackJacks, Baker was also a finalist for this award in 2019. A presence on both ends of the floor, the University of Alberta product ranked fourth among the Stingers in scoring (12.2) and second in blocked shots (0.75). Baker will receive a custom-designed ring courtesy of CEBL’s award partner, Jostens, for earning Canadian of the ear honours.

Baker is also a finalist for the 2020 CEBL Player Of The Year award along with fellow teammate and 2019 CEBL Player Of The Year, Xavier Moon. The award winner will be announced September 2.

The CEBL Summer Series tipped off July 25 and became the first professional sports league in Canada to return to play since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in mid-March shut down sports across the country. Games were televised live nationally on CBC, the CBC Gem App, and on cbcports.ca. They were carried to more than 130 million people internationally thanks to distribution agreements secured in Australia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan by MEDIAPRO Canada, the international media rights and production partner of the CEBL. All Summer Series games were also livestreamed on Twitch.

A league created by Canadians for Canadians, the CEBL has the highest percentage of Canadian players of any professional league in the country, with 80% of its current rosters being Canadians. Players come from the NBA G-League, top international leagues, the Canadian National Team program, and top NCAA programs as well as from U SPORTS. The only First Division Professional League partner of Canada Basketball, the CEBL season typically runs from May through August. More information is available at www.cebl.ca.
