Powell Named MVP as Scarborough Takes Home Five 2026 CEBL Awards
Vancouver’s Samuel Repeats as Canadian Player of the Year

Today the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced the winners of the 2026 CEBL Awards and the All-CEBL Teams via the league's digital and social media channels, capping a season that saw the Scarborough Shooting Stars set a league record with 20 regular-season wins.
The 2026 season delivered no shortage of unforgettable moments, from record-breaking individual performances to nail-biting finishes across 120 games league-wide. The action was capped by the Winnipeg Sea Bears' win over the Brampton Honey Badgers (84-98) at Canada Life Centre on August 15 in front of a CEBL-record crowd of 12,519 fans, crowning Winnipeg as 2026 CEBL Champions.
Award winners and All-CEBL First, Second, and All-Canadian Teams are determined by votes cast by the CEBL's team head coaches, general managers, assistant coaches, select league broadcasters, and internal media personnel, based on regular season performance. Team representatives are prohibited from voting for a player or head coach from their own team.

- Developmental Player of the Year: Easton Thimm (Saskatchewan Mamba)

- Fox 40 Officiating Recognition Award: Mike Thomson
Powell was the driving force behind Scarborough's breakout campaign, averaging a team-leading 22.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists across 21 games while draining a league-best-tying 3.8 three-pointers per game. He finished third in the CEBL in scoring, led the Shooting Stars in points, assists and threes made, and drained a team-record nine three-pointers in a single game, tied for second-most in a game league-wide. His two-way impact and late-game production also earned him Clutch Player of the Year honours as he registered the most target score winners in the season (9).
Samuel returns as the reigning Canadian Player of the Year, repeating as this year's winner after finishing third in the CEBL in rebounding at 8.7 per game. The Montreal, Que., native led Vancouver in rebounds (8.7), blocked shots (1.1) and field goal percentage (53.5 per cent), while finishing second on the team in scoring at 17.1 points per game.
Vernon guided Scarborough to the best record in the league in 2026 along with a league-record 20 wins,, with the Shooting Stars finishing second in point differential (+154) behind champions Winnipeg. Under his leadership, Scarborough players combined for five individual award wins, while three players also earned All-CEBL Team selections.
Mitchell was a force off the bench for Scarborough, leading the league in rebounding at 10.5 per game while setting a new CEBL single-game record with 22 rebounds on June 27 against Brampton. He averaged a double-double of 13.8 points and 10.5 rebounds, ranking third on the Shooting Stars in both scoring and assists (58), tied for third in blocked shots (15), and second on the team in field goal percentage (51.5 per cent).
Tynes anchored Scarborough’s defence, leading the league outright in both steals per game (2.0) and total steals (49) across 24 games en route to earning the CDIC Defensive Player of the Year award.
Thimm capped a standout debut season with Saskatchewan, averaging 3.3 points on 52.4 per cent shooting to go with 2.9 rebounds across 18 games. He arrived at the CEBL as the third-leading rebounder in University of Saskatchewan history (622).
Thomson was honoured with the Fox 40 Officiating Recognition Award for his continued contributions to the CEBL officiating program. A FIBA Referee Instructor and longtime contributor to the league, he again served as both a Referee Coach and member of the Referee Advisory Committee in 2026, drawing on his extensive experience in Canadian and international basketball to provide steady guidance and leadership throughout the season.
The 2026 All-CEBL First, Second, and All-Canadian Teams were also revealed.The All-CEBL First and Second Teams recognize the league's top 10 performers of the season overall, while the All-Canadian Team honours the top five Canadian players in the CEBL each selected by a vote of the league's coaches, general managers and other basketball personnel.
