National broadcast coverage begins May 9 on CBC and CBC Gem 

Today, the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) in partnership with CBC Sports, unveiled an energetic and experienced broadcast team that blends veteran voices, former players and emerging talent from across Canada. This group will deliver compelling, courtside and studio coverage to audiences nationwide on CBC and CBC Gem beginning Saturday, May 9 at 3:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. MT) in Edmonton as the Stingers host the Winnipeg Sea Bears to open the league’s eighth season.


Hosted by Donnovan Bennett, alongside panelists Tamika Nurse and Jevohn Shepherd, the CEBL on CBC Sports broadcast team brings together a dynamic mix of award-winning storytellers, seasoned play-by-play voices and accomplished analysts with experience spanning the NBA, Olympics and top international competitions. Commentators Arash Madani, Mitch Peacock, and Peter Ruttgaizzer and sideline reporters Esfandiar Baraheni, Chris Wiggins, Marc Majeau and Joey Slattery, make up the deep roster of seasoned broadcasters that will deliver expert insight and compelling coverage from courtside to studio.

The national broadcast slate features six regular-season games, as well as the CEBL Conference Finals and best-of-three CEBL Finals. The full CEBL on CBC TV schedule was released April 23, with every game streaming live  on the free CBC Gem streaming service, cbcsports.ca and CBC Sports YouTube channel, ensuring fans can catch the action anytime, anywhere.

Arash Madani – Play-By-Play

Arash Madani is an award-winning broadcaster who has covered many of the world’s premier sporting events, including the Super Bowl, Olympics, Wimbledon, World Series, The Masters and NCAA Final Four. He has interviewed some of sport’s biggest names, such as Roger Federer, Christine Sinclair and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, while also delivering insights from global icons like Usain Bolt, Serena Williams and David Beckham. Basketball has been central to his work, with coverage spanning five NBA Finals, including the Toronto Raptors’ 2019 championship, as well as Canada’s historic medal run at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and multiple Olympic Games. A recipient of the George Gross Award as Canada’s top sports broadcaster, Madani is known for his ability to tell compelling athlete stories on and off the court.


Chris Wiggins – Sideline Reporter
Chris Wiggins is entering his third season with the CEBL as a sideline reporter for the Vancouver Bandits. He brings nearly a decade of morning radio experience and currently works as a reporter with CTV Vancouver, while also serving as the digital and in-game host for the BC Lions. Known for his energy and storytelling approach, Wiggins brings a dynamic presence to each broadcast and returns to the sidelines this summer.


Donnovan Bennett – Host

Donnovan Bennett is an acclaimed storyteller, host, producer, and content creator known for his thoughtful approach that explores the meaningful intersections of sports, race, politics, gender and pop culture. With extensive experience across television, radio, and digital, Bennett has become a distinctive voice in sports media, recognized for his ability to spark important and engaging conversations. Bennett has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Lester B. Pearson Award, Ted Rogers Award, Black Excellence Award, RTDNA Canada Award, and back-to-back Amnesty International Canada Media Awards. He is a three-time Canadian Screen Award nominee. Bennett also frequently covers the biggest sporting events on the global calendar, including the Olympic Games for CBC.


Esfandiar Baraheni – Sideline Reporter
Esfandiar Baraheni is a broadcaster and reporter who has spent the past decade covering the CEBL, NBA, G League and the Toronto Raptors. His work has appeared across a range of outlets, including The Athletic, theScore, Forbes, TSN and Sportsnet, along with Raptors 905 and Raptors Republic, bringing a strong background in basketball coverage and storytelling.


Jevohn Shepherd – Analyst and Panelist

Jevohn Shepherd is a former University of Michigan captain who went on to an 11-year professional career and represented Canada internationally, including at the 2009 FIBA World Championship, while also earning a bronze medal at the 2005 Summer Universiade in Bangkok. Following his playing career, he served as General Manager and President of Basketball Operations for the Ottawa BlackJacks before transitioning into broadcasting. He is now an NBA analyst with TSN and provides colour commentary for the Toronto Raptors on TSN 1050.


Joey Slattery – Sideline Reporter
Joey Slattery is a Winnipeg-based broadcaster and journalist entering his fourth season with the CEBL as a sideline reporter and as the play-by-play voice of the Sea Bears. He co-hosts and produces the Target Score Weekly podcast, focused on the Sea Bears and the CEBL. A former CTV Sports Director, Slattery brings over a decade of experience across multiple Canadian markets and has built a reputation as a trusted voice in basketball coverage and storytelling.


Marc Majeau – Sideline Reporter
Marc Majeau is an Edmonton-based broadcaster who has spent the past seven seasons as a voice of the Edmonton Stingers, working across play-by-play, colour commentary and sideline roles. He has also served as the play-by-play voice of the University of Alberta and Canada West basketball for the past decade, including calling two national championships in 2022 and 2024.


Mitch Peacock– Play-By-Play
Mitch Peacock is an experienced broadcaster and the play-by-play voice of the Calgary Surge, entering his fourth season calling CEBL games. He joined the league’s national broadcast team last year and has covered basketball internationally, including assignments for Germany’s BBL, Turkey’s BSL and EuroLeague preseason action. In addition to basketball, he calls games in the Swedish Hockey League and Champions Hockey League. Peacock’s career also includes play-by-play at five Olympic Games, along with roles as a rinkside reporter on Hockey Night in Canada, host of FIFA World Cup coverage, anchor of FOX Soccer Report and host of Calgary Flames radio.


Peter Ruttgaizer– Play-By-Play
Peter Ruttgaizer is an experienced broadcaster who spent three seasons as a play-by-play voice in the CEBL. He has worked across a wide range of sports, including the NHL, MLS, CFL, FIS Ski Cross and U SPORTS basketball, hockey and football, in roles as a play-by-play announcer, reporter and host. His experience spans both national and regional broadcasts with NBC Sports, MSG Network, Altitude Sports and CBC Sports. Returning to the CEBL, Peter brings a strong familiarity with the league and a passion for telling its story.


Tamika Nurse – Panelist

Tamika Nurse is a seasoned basketball analyst for TSN and a proud Hamilton, Ontario native. A former NCAA Division I athlete, she played for both the University of Oregon and Bowling Green State University before bringing her insight to Canadian airwaves. Tamika comes from one of North America's most accomplished sports families. Her father, Richard Nurse, played in the CFL; her mother, Cathy Nurse, was a varsity basketball star at McMaster University. Her siblings include WNBA standout Kia Nurse and NHL defenseman Darnell Nurse. She is also the niece of former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb, further underscoring the multi-sport legacy she proudly represents.

Honey Badgers Sign G League Guard Hunter

The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that they have signed highly skilled guard Tyrese Hunter, who is fresh off his first professional campaign in the NBA G League. Hunter is about a year removed from his incredible four-year college career with the University of Memphis, University of Texas, and Iowa State University. He immediately took his talents to the NBA G League where he played with three different teams throughout the season, and averaged 5.5 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 13.8 minutes per game. “Tyrese plays with great pace and has the ability to create shots for himself and others,” said Honey Badgers General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Jermaine Anderson. “He will be a key piece of our talented guard rotation. His hunger and tenacity make him a perfect fit for our culture, and we’re excited to welcome him to the Honey Badgers family.” Hunter spent his first professional season with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets G League affiliate), Raptors 905 (Toronto Raptors G League affiliate), and South Bay Lakers (Los Angeles Lakers G League affiliate), where he played under current Honey Badgers Head Coach Alex Cerda. He posted a career-high 26 points with the Vipers with six made threes and four assists November 29 versus the Osceola Magic. He had an incredibly consistent career through university, averaging between 10 and 14 points each season. He logged a career-high 13.7 points per game as a senior with Memphis and earned spots on the All-AAC First Team and ACC All-Newcomer Team en route to an AAC Tournament Championship. “We’re thrilled to welcome Tyrese Hunter to our program,” said Honey Badgers Head Coach Alex Cerda. “Having coached Tyrese before, I’ve had a front-row seat to his growth and the way he approaches the game on a daily basis. Bandits Re-Sign All-Time Games Played Leader Notice

The Vancouver Bandits have re-signed veteran guard Duane Notice for his fourth consecutive Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season with BC’s professional basketball team. A 6-foot-3 guard from Toronto, Ont., Notice debuted with the club in 2023 and has contributed leadership, grit, and clutch performances to the roster during his time. He holds several franchise records, including the most regular season games played (58) and the most Target Score game winners (7). Additionally, he is ranked second all-time in both total assists and steals, and fifth all-time in total rebounds. “Duane Notice is the heartbeat of our culture. He is a relentless leader, a clutch shot-maker, and a defensive tone setter who sacrifices his body,” said head coach and general manager Kyle Julius. “Duane shows up early, stays late, and drives everything we do on and off the floor. We expect another huge summer from Duane, and we know he will bring it like he always does.” Notice appeared in 18 regular season games in 2025, including nine starts, where he averaged 7.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 25.4 minutes per game. During his CEBL off-seasons, Notice has played for the Sudbury Five of the Basketball Super League (BSL), where he was most recently named 2026 BSL Finals MVP. In the 2025-26 BSL season, Notice averaged 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 0.8 steals, and 36.9 minutes across 28 games played. Prior to the Bandits, Notice has previous CEBL experience with the Brampton Honey Badgers (formerly known as Hamilton) in 2019 and 2020 and spent two seasons with the Toronto Raptors’ NBA G League affiliate, the Raptors 905, between 2018 and 2020. Internationally, Notice has represented Team Canada at six different tournaments and has played a combined total of 30 games throughout his career for both the junior men’s and senior men’s national teams. Canadian Forward Mitchell Signs With Scarborough Shooting Stars

The Scarborough Shooting Stars announced today the signing of Canadian forward Frank Mitchell for the 2026 season. Mitchell, a 6’8 forward from Toronto, brings physicality, rebounding dominance, and a strong interior presence to Scarborough’s frontcourt. Known for his strength, motor, and ability to control the paint, Mitchell adds a powerful two-way dimension to the Shooting Stars lineup.  Mitchell enters the professional ranks following a highly productive collegiate career, where he developed into one of the most impactful big men at the NCAA mid-major level. His consistent double-double production and ability to anchor the paint position him to make an immediate impact in the CEBL. Mitchell most recently competed with the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, where he emerged as one of the top forwards in the Atlantic 10 Conference. During the 2025–26 season, Mitchell averaged 16.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting an efficient 55.6% from the field, ranking among the conference leaders in rebounding and double-doubles. His ability to dominate the glass and finish efficiently around the rim made him a focal point of his team’s success. Prior to his time at St. Bonaventure, Mitchell played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Canisius Golden Griffins, showcasing steady growth throughout his NCAA journey. Montreal Alliance Sign Tennessee Playmaker Anderson

The Montreal Alliance announced today the signing of American guard Jalin Anderson, bringing a proven offensive contributor and two-way competitor to the backcourt ahead of the 2026 CEBL season. Anderson, a 6-foot-3 guard from Jackson, Tennessee, arrives fresh off a standout rookie professional season with the Nilan Bisons in Finland's Korisliiga, one of Europe's most competitive mid-tier leagues, where he averaged 14.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game on 44% shooting from the field. Vancouver Bandits Re-Sign Local Talent Mutabazi

The Vancouver Bandits announced Saturday that Trinity Western Spartans alumnus David Mutabazi has re-signed with the club for the 2026 Canadian Elite Basketball League season (CEBL). The 6-foot-5 guard joined the Bandits as a Developmental Player during the 2025 season where he was selected 30th overall in the CEBL Draft, appearing in nine games with three starts. Mutabazi made an immediate impact, logging 29 minutes and finishing with a game-high plus-44 as a starter in his professional debut on May 15, 2025 in a 106-65 win against the Saskatchewan Rattlers. “David was a complete surprise last season. His defensive instincts and relentless effort elevated our locker room culture,” said head coach and general manager Kyle Julius. “This year, we are counting on David to do even more. He is one of our few returning players and we expect him to bring that toughness, intensity, and now leadership to push us forward.” Mutabazi recently finished a four-year collegiate basketball career at Trinity Western University, where he averaged 13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game across 83 games dating back to 2022. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 9.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists across 17 games, placing him in the top five in those categories for the Spartans. The Calgary Surge of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced today the signing of American guard Jon Elmore for the upcoming 2026 CEBL season. The Charleston, West Virginia native joins the Surge following an impressive professional journey that includes NBA G League experience with the affiliate teams of the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Sacremento Kings and international play. Mesurant 6 pi 3 po, le garde, originaire d’Ottawa, sera de retour à la maison après cinq saisons au niveau universitaire. The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced today that the team has signed Guard Wilson Dubinsky for the 2026 Season. The 6 '3 guard, originally from Ottawa, will return home after five seasons at the college level. He began his career at Seward County Community College, before transferring to South Carolina State University in the NCAA and then playing his last season at Marshall University. “We’re excited to add Wilson to our group. He brings a strong combination of skill, competitiveness, and character. With the nature of the CEBL season, it’s important to have players who can come in, adapt quickly, and contribute right away. In his 2025-26 season at Marshall University, Dubinsky averaged five points and 3.1 rebounds. In his first season with South Carolina State, he averaged 7.7 points and 1.7 rebounds. G League Forward Williams Signs with Saskatoon Mamba

The Saskatoon Mamba of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced today the team has signed American forward, Jaylin Williams, for the 2026 season. A physical and versatile player, Williams joins the Mamba following his strong 2025 CEBL season with the Winnipeg Sea Bears. The son of Georgia returns to the CEBL after most recently playing with the Stockton Kings (Sacramento Kings affiliate) in the NBA G League, where he helped lead the Kings to a Finals appearance. During the 2025-26 NBA G League season, Williams started in 48 per cent of his 45 games played, ranking third on the team in minutes played (1,216). Known for his two-way style of play, Williams had an impact on both ends of the floor–finishing first on the team in total blocks (37), second on the team for total rebounds (283), and third on the team for total assists (111). Prior to his 2025-26 season with the Stockton Kings, Williams gained CEBL experience with the Winnipeg Sea Bears in 2025, where he put his own stamp on the league. Williams started 52 per cent of his games played, shot 42 per cent from the field, and averaged 9.2 points per game. “Jaylin is the kind of player every coach wants — tough, unselfish, and impactful on both ends of the floor,” said Head Coach Isaiah Fox. “He’s proven he can compete at a high level, and his versatility and experience will be a huge asset for us as we build something special here in Saskatoon.” During his collegiate career, Williams competed at the NCAA Division I level with the Auburn Tigers for his five seasons of eligibility. Breaking out in his fifth year, Williams averaged 12.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 57 per cent from the field.
