Dubé-Brais and Raso of the CEBL Announced Head Coaches for Biosteel All-Canadian Boys Basketball Game

TSN and Athlete Institute announced Tuesday that CEBL head coaches Charles Dubé-Brais, of the Ottawa BlackJacks, and Victor Raso, of the Niagara River Lions will be Head Coaches for the Biosteel All Canadian Boys Basketball Game. Canada’s next generation of basketball stars are ready to hit the court for the 2022 BIOSTEEL ALL CANADIAN BASKETBALL GAMES , airing live from the University of Toronto Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport on Sunday, April 3 e xclusively on TSN.


“The opportunity to coach and get to know such exciting young players is something I’m very grateful for,” said Victor Raso, Head Coach and General Manager, Niagara River Lions. “It’s an honour to represent the River Lions, and the CEBL as one of the Biosteel All-Canadian Game head coaches and I am looking forward to the weekend.”


Raso has been with the River Lions organization since being announced as the Head Coach and General Manager for the 2019 CEBL inaugural season. He was named the CEBL Coach of the Year that season after leading the River Lions to a league-best regular season record (15-5). In 2021, Raso led Niagara to the CEBL Championship Finals where they lost to the Edmonton Stingers after finishing second in the regular season standings.


“It is an honour to be a part of this event and get to coach these amazing athletes,” said Charles Dube-Brais, Head Coach, Ottawa BlackJacks. “I am very excited to get to know these young men and take a glimpse into the future of Canadian basketball.”


After signing as head coach of the second-year franchise in January 2021, Dubé-Brais led Ottawa to a semifinal appearance at the 2021 Championship Weekend in Edmonton. Dubé-Brais has an extensive coaching resume that includes assignments in many of the significant professional basketball leagues around the world. He served as assistant coach for Jama Mahlalela and Raptors 905 of the NBA G League. Additionally, Dubé-Brais participated as guest coach in the NBA Summer League with the San Antonio Spurs from 2015-2017, which included the 2015 NBA Las Vegas Summer League title.


Both Raso and Dubé-Brais were also assistant coaches for the CEBL champion Edmonton Stingers in the FIBA Basketball Champions League Americas earlier this year which consisted of 12 teams across seven countries in the Americas.

The CEBL begins its fourth season on May 25. A league created by Canadians for Canadians, the CEBL has the highest percentage of Canadian players of any professional league in the country, with 75 per cent of its current rosters being Canadians. Players and coaches bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as U SPORTS. The only First Division Professional League Partner of Canada Basketball, the CEBL season runs from May through August and consists of ten teams coast-to-coast.
