Stingers Sign CEBL-Experienced Forward Meshack Lufile

Jun 09, 2023

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of 6'9 forward Meshack Lufile. The Burlington native recently played for BC PH Miercurea in the Romanian Divizia A where he averaged 16.9 points per game in 32 games. The Cape Breton University product will suit up for the Stingers in their return to action this Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to the championship culture embedded here and adding to an already solid group of professionals," said Lufile. "The culture that has been built through the organization from winning championships is something I'm excited to experience and hopefully add to."

Lufile joined the Growlers for their lone CEBL season in 2022, where he averaged 5.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in 14 appearances. Prior to that, he spent time in the British NBL, the NBLC, and began his pro career in the Dutch Eredivisie in 2016.

Before turning pro, Lufile played 5 years from 2011-2016 with the Cape Breton Capers, culminating in a senior year averaging 16.9 points and 9.0 rebounds including a career high 35 points against St. FX. He was named the AUS Defensive Player of the Year that same season.

Lufile will join the Stingers (1-2) as they host the Ottawa BlackJacks (3-1) Saturday June 10. The night will see the return of the Stingers Women in Basketball Celebration, with over 500 youth basketball players attending the game.

The Stingers begin their 2023 season with back-to-back games against the Calgary Surge May 27 and 28, first in Calgary then at home at the Flair Airlines Hangar in the Edmonton EXPO Centre. With the home opener officially sold out, tickets to all remaining home games are still available online (www.thestinger.ca/tickets) or by contacting the Stingers front office via email ([email protected]) or phone (1-87STINGERS). Special rates for group tickets and flex packs are available.
