Stingers Sign Guard Ryan Richmond

May 07, 2024

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday the signing of Canadian guard Ryan Richmond to their 2024 roster.  After a four year standout career at Bentley (NCAA DII), Richmond has three years of pro experience in Germany and Spain.

“I’m very grateful to have been blessed with the opportunity to have my first CEBL season be with the Edmonton Stingers,“ said Richmond. “[It is] a successful franchise with amazing fans and culture. I’m excited to play with my new teammates and coach Baker. I’m looking forward to contributing in every way I can to the team’s success this summer.”

The Toronto native finished this last season splitting time with Melilla CB of the Spanish LEB Gold and SG Luetzel of the German Pro A league, averaging 9.9 points per game across both teams. He played two seasons in German domestic leagues in the years prior, averaging 16.4 points per game in 60 games from 2021 - 2023.

Before turning pro, the 6’1” guard had a successful career with the Bentley Falcons where he owns three of the top five scoring averages in school history. He averaged 23.0 points per game in his senior year – a mark aided by a 44-point performance on January 16th vs American International – alongside a career high 3.6 assists. In his junior year he put up a career best 23.6 per game; before that he eclipsed the 20-point per game average mark in just his sophomore season, notching a 22.6 per game average.

Across his NCAA career he racked up numerous individual accolades including an NABC Division II All-America Team in his senior year and numerous all-conference selections throughout his four year career.

Richmond joins the Stingers backcourt alongside returning guards Adika Peter-McNeilly and Elijah Miller, as well as 2024 additions Mike Nuga and Davion Warren. CEBL Draft selections Nate Petrone and Taye Donald pad out the Stingers guard options. Training camp begins on May 12th, nine days before the Stingers tip-off their CEBL season in Calgary on May 21st.

Richmond and the Stingers will return to the Edmonton EXPO Centre on June 2nd to host the Saskatchewan Rattlers in their home opener. Tickets are available for as low as $20 per seat and can be purchased online or by contacting the Stingers head office via email ([email protected]) or phone (1-87STINGERS).
