American Guard Garcia Signs with Rattlers
The Santa Fe, NM guard adds depth to the Rattlers backcourt

The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that the club has signed 6-foot-4 Alex Garcia from Santa Fe, New Mexico for the 2025 season. Garcia will make his professional debut Friday, July 11th when the Rattlers host the Winnipeg Sea Bears at SaskTel Centre.
“We are pretty excited about signing Alex to his first professional contract,” said General Manager and Vice-President of Basketball Operations, Barry Rawlyk. “He is coming off an outstanding college career and carries forward a skill set that will allow him to continue to produce at a high level as a pro. He has an exceptional basketball IQ, tremendous work ethic, and is a high-character team-first guy.”
During his seven-year collegiate career, Garcia has played Cal State Dominguez Hills. He has a career average of 9.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.4 blocks, and 29.1 minutes in 91 games while shooting 40.1 per cent from behind the arc.
In his collegiate debut season as a rookie with the Toros, Garcia played in all 28 games with 20 appearances in the starting line-up. He averaged 9.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 27.7 minutes per game. He was named CCAA Freshman of the Year.
During the 2024 season, Garcia played in all 30 games with 26 starts while averaging 8.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 28.0 minutes. He was named All-CCAA Honour Mention, and the Toros finished the regular season with a record of 17 and 5 being named CCAA Regular Season Champions. They finished their post-season in the Semi-Final round of the CCAA Tournament.
In his final season, Garcia played in all 36 games while averaging 10.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 31.4 minutes. He was named to All-CCAA Second Team, and the Toros finished the regular season with a record of 20 and 2 being named CCAA Regular Season Champions. In the CCAA Tournament Semi-Finals, Garcia hit a 22-foot three to send the Toros to overtime with 2.8 seconds left. They finished their post-season in the CCAA Tournament Final with a loss of 73-74 against Nova Southeastern.
“I’m ecstatic for the opportunity to be joining the Rattlers and play in a prestigious league like the CEBL,” said Garcia. “For the Rattlers I strive to bring tenacious defense, all around shot making and maximum effort in whatever they need from me to elevate their level of play. I can’t wait to give the team my all.”
The 2025 schedule features a new 24-game slate. The 2025 CEBL Playoffs are scheduled to begin Thursday, August 14 with the Conference Play-In games, followed by the Conference Semifinals on Saturday, August 16. The winners will advance to CW25 to join the Winnipeg Sea Bears (host team) and the top-ranked team from the Eastern Conference who are automatically seeded into the Conference Finals. The full playoff schedule with tipoff times will be announced at a later date.
